Match.com Disguises Ads as Personal Profiles

Wall Street Journal writes about the "profile integration banners" format over at the dating site Match.com: "'Our intention was not to be tricky,' says Melanie Angermann, vice president of marketing for Match.com, who isn't aware of the site receiving any complaints about the ads so far. 'In this particular type of environment, people are looking very intently at the listings and not what's happening around the listings and that's why we thought this would be a good vehicle.'"

It's like those mushrooming ad mascot profiles at MySpace.com. And there's so much we can learn from the porn industry. Just look at the craigslist's personals section; the pornsters have been using personal ads and profiles to promote their webcam sites forever.
